What does the Chamber Do For You?

The Chamber is a business organization to help foster business growth and development in your City. But also, the Chamber provides community information, maps, community guides, student scholarship and a new resident welcome packet. The Chamber and its members produce Muskego’s Country Christmas & Parade for your enjoyment. It is also one of nine local organizations that brings you Muskego Fest and Parade each summer.

Chamber Welcomed New Businesses in 2009!

Even during challenging economic times, entrepreneurs and assertive business people are choosing Muskego for their startup business. That means Muskego’s economic team lead by the Mayor is working! In 2009 the Chamber coordinated a ground breaking ceremony for Super Wal-Mart and several ribbon cuttings including GE Technologies, Central Bark Doggy Day Care, Pyramax Bank, Maul Flooring, Adrenaline Power Sports, Mama Mia’s Italian Restaurant as well as Muskego Food Pantry.   Welcome to Muskego! Check out Chamber event photos on this site.

Economic Development

Mayor Johnson reports that when he took office in 2006, 9.4% of the tax base was contributed by commercial/business property. The norm for a community our size is 18%.  After inplementing the City's first economic development plan, the City now realizes 12.1% of the tax base contributed by business property.  This reduces the tax burden paid by home owners.

Muskego has three lakes whereby business development is restricted to protect these valuable resources. This leaves four main thoroughfares within Muskego suitable for traffic needs to accommodate business development; Janesville Road, Racine Avenue, Moorland Road, and a small section of Hwy 36. Moorland Road development will be instrumental in helping offset the home owner tax burden into the future.

The County experienced a budget shortfall in state aid and transfer fees.  The County has applied for Federal funding in the amount of $5.98M to offset the high cost of the Janesville Road Project of $25M.  This will delay the project by one year with 2011 Utlity Work / 2012 construction from Moorland to Lannon and 2013 construction from Lannon to Racine.

Janesville Rd (Hwy L) is a county highway. The project began in fall of 2007 consisting of an engineering and environmental study, a group of stakeholders, Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS) and an advisory group (AG) of community members. Carefully considering the trade-offs between business impacts and the safety of the traveling public and pedestrians, the preferred alternative is a four-lane road with twenty food raised median, curb and gutter, five foot wide sidewalks on both sides and a ten-foot wide grassed terrace between the curb and sidewalk. Median openings will be provided at intersecting roads and in between intersections, in accordance with County design standards. The preferred alternative will be centered on the existing road’s centerline, except for areas where the road is shifted to flatten curves. This occurs in two locations, near Lincoln Dr. and Park Dr. Traffic signals will also be installed at Lannon Drive, Bay Lane Drive and Martin Drive.

One of the practical considerations for using a raise median and providing terrace on the side of the road is in regards to snow removal which allows the Country snowplow operators to push snow up onto the median and the terrace.

Detailed information about the Janesville Road Project is available at http://www.janesvilleroad.com/

The Chamber of Commerce has been instrumental in keeping the project moving foward after many setbacks to ensure Muskego's economic future and community pride!
